- "I've never been in a wood before, Hazel, It looks dangerous."
- — Violet to Hazel
Violet was a doe who came from Sandleford with Hazel, Fiver, Bigwig, and the other rabbits. She only appeared in the film.
Death and legacy[]
Tragically, she was the only hlessi in the group that never reached Watership Down. She heads out from under the hedge to eat, but is swiftly taken by a hawk. Fiver was the only one to witness the incident. She is presumed deceased, although it is not impossible for the hawk to have dropped her while carrying her and for her to have escaped. Her apparent death is not seen, as the screen blacks out when the hawk strikes.
She was the only doe to evade the Owsla with Hazel, so her presumed death was a serious blow for any hopes of a future life. Upon arriving at Watership Down, Hazel soon began to consider how to find does for the warren, since the males would otherwise die off alone.
Trivia[]
- She is the only character in the entire franchise to have only appeared in the film.
- Violet's name was even known only when Fiver said "Violet's gone."
- Her voice actress was uncredited, so it is unknown who provided her voice.
