Toadflax was a rabbit that was a member of the Sandleford Owsla at the Sandleford Warren. He was a bully who threatened other Sandleford rabbits. He also possibly appeared in the Miniseries and Graphic Novel.
Appearance[]
Toadflax is a large brown rabbit with a lighter brown pattern along his body. He has large brown eyes and big ears. From the scenes he is present in, it is noticeable that Toadflax looks very aggressive.
In the Graphic Novel, he has a scar across his eye.
Book and movie[]
He once found Fiver about to eat a piece of cowslip. He told him to leave, but Hazel came in and said; "but Fiver found it, Toadflax". Toadflax replied, "And we'll eat it, cowslips are for Owsla - don't you know that? If you don't, we can easily teach you".
Toadflax was one of the rabbits to escape the gassing of the Sandleford warren with Captain Holly, Bluebell and Pimpernel. Unfortunately, Toadflax inhaled too much poison, went mad and died. After Bluebell stated something about how the men hated them for raiding their crops and eating their lettuce, Toadflax replied with his last words, "That wasn't why they destroyed the Warren. It was just because we were in the way. They killed us to suit themselves", and collapsed.
Miniseries[]
In the miniseries adaptation, Toadflax is seen with Scabious stopping Fiver from eating sow thistle. When confronted by Hazel, Toadflax tells him that sow thistle is for Owsla only and laughs cruelly; as Hazel and Fiver leave defeated. Toadflax is mentioned when Holly and his Owsla are chasing after the escaping rabbits.
