Threar is one of the children of Fiver and Vilthuril. Like his father, Fiver, he is a seer. His name means "rowan," a type of tree also known as "mountain ash."
Biography[]
Watership Down (book)[]
Threar appears in the penultimate chapter of the book, being told a story by his mother along with his siblings. When Hazel comes, the kittens jump at him, shouting, "Hazel-rah! Hazel-rah!" He predicts that a horseman will come and is mentioned to have told his mother what a river looked like, despite having only seen one in his dreams.
Tales from Watership Down[]
In the November following the events of the main book, Blackavar takes Threar and Scabious on a training raid to the garden of Ladle Hill House, where they encounter a mysterious figure. Blackavar is certain it is only a hare, though Scabious is convinced that it is the ghost of General Woundwort. Threar's opinion is not stated.
Personality[]
Like his siblings, Threar is playful as a kitten, joining them in jumping on Hazel. He also seems to be fairly confident about his mystic feelings, saying he is sure he isn't mistaken.
Trivia[]
- He was probably named after the Threarah, the late Chief Rabbit of Sandleford Warren.
