Slate is a turtle that helped the rabbits of Watership Down trick Vervain into making everyone think he was mad. He was told to let Ruffle sit on his back to make it appear as if she were swimming (moorhens do not swim). He is only featured in one episode of the Watership Down TV Series: “The Great Game”.
