Hyacinth is a pig featured in the Watership Down TV Series episode “The Market”. She is a prize winning pig that helped the rabbits of Watership Down get out of the marketplace. Then she herself went to the high hills.
Abilities[]
- Strong sense of smell: Hyacinth used her sense of smell to detect a hrududu that smelled like seaweed, salt and sand that would lead the rabbits to the Big Water. She also decribed that Fiver was from the high hills, along the path of the setting sun, recently been at a farm, and had a lettuce and a beet root just from his scent.
- Strength: Hyacinth was shown to break out of a wooden fence with ease and slammed Duster into the ground.
- Multilingual: Due to constant travelling between fair-to-fair, Hyacinth picked up on many languages. To the rabbits surprise, she knew that a "hrududu" meant "vehicle" in Lapine.
Etymology[]
The name "Hyacynth" comes from the hyacinth flower. A hyacinth is a perennial flower that blooms in clusters from the Scilloideae subfamily. The colors range from shades of purple, pink, white, and red.
