Hemlock was the father of General Woundwort. Woundwort was one of his many sons.
While he is given no name in the book or miniseries, he is given a name in the TV series.
Woundwort's father is also seen in the miniseries, also being the father of Ragwort and Milkwort.
Background (book)[]
Woundwort's father, unnamed in the book, lived in a burrow outside a cottage garden near Cole Henley, where he had at least one litter. He is described as "a happy-go-lucky and reckless buck" who was unwary of living near humans and often raided the cottage garden. Eventually, the cottager ambushed and shot him one morning. The man also shot Woundwort's mother; she survived for a brief time but was soon killed by a weasel the same day.
TV series[]
He is only mentioned during a monologue told by Speaker of the Past in the episode The Eyes of Silverweed. It was mentioned he was also the founder/leader of the warren Darkhaven. This is the only version in which he is given a name.
Miniseries[]
Woundwort's father appears in a flashback in the miniseries episode The Siege.
Him, Ragwort, Woundwort and Milkwort were seen trying to feed. The family went to raid a garden, with Woundwort being ordered to keep watch while the others joyfully feast on cabbages. However, a fox watches them from the bushes, and, due to Woundwort going tharn, is able to ambush and kill Ragwort, Milkwort and their father.
Trivia[]
- His name is a poisonous plant, just like one of his sons Ragwort.
