Watership Down Wiki

Glanbrins are a rabbit-like species that appear in Tales from Watership Down in the short story, "The Sense of Smell." They live in The Land of Perpetual Darkness, have no eyes (or at least small, hard, and sunken into the head), and are larger than a rabbit. They live in complete darkness and use their sense of smell to get around. They greatly fear the Ilips and would not dare to go pass where the piles of stones lay scattered by the end of their territory.

Similar to rabbits, glanbrins live in groups, dig their homes, compete for does, use the terms "does" and "bucks", and share similar customs according to a glanbrin El-ahrairah met on his journey. Unlike rabbits, they eat roots instead of grass and refer to their homes as "burrows" instead of warrens.
