Charlock was a Captain of the Efrafan Owsla, and Woundwort rated him as one of his best captains, being brave and resourceful.

Charlock died when he was leading a patrol of Efraran rabbits in pursuit of the Watership Down rabbits Holly, Silver, Buckthorn, and Strawberry, who were escaping from Efrafa after being forcibly detained there. When he was crossing the railway to bring the fugitives back, he was run over by a train. The deaths of Charlock and Mallow within a few days of each other resulted in a shortage of experienced Owsla Captains in Efrafa by the time Bigwig arrived.
Film[]
Charlock is briefly seen chasing Holly, who has escaped from Efrafa, with another Efrafan. They both die after being run over by a train.

In the Miniseries, Charlocks makes no appearance, but his role is given to Vervain who is killed by a train.
