Winter on Watership Down, Part 1[]

Buttercup is first introduced when she spots the lost Hazel, Fiver, Bigwig, Dandelion and Hawkbit at one of the mansions windows. She introduces herself and asks “who are you?” Adding that they look cold and should be in a borrow tonight out of all nights because it’s Frith’s eve. She then invites them to her warren where they can stay for the night.

She takes them to a maze in which her warren is hidden. She tells them to stay close because or else they could get lost in the maze. at which Hawkbit responds “what is a maze?”. And she replays “something that you could get lost in”. They continue into the maze until Hazel spots Kehaar flying above. He calls to him at which Buttercup asks who they are calling to. And Hawkbit responds “a friend…”.

Winter on Watership Down, Part 2[]

She leads them through the maze and arrives at a hole under a tree. They all go inside and Buttercup invites Bigwig to rest on a pile of leaves. Once settled, she shows Fiver and Hazel the stock pile of food she has for Frith’s Eve. Seeing this she invites them to help her gather more food. She leads them, along with Hawkbit and Dandelion outside to a pile of Flayrah. When they find a deer to be there as well, though surprised, Buttercup dismisses the deer as a friend. At one point she passably mentions that the food is left out by humans, and the others demand that she leads them back to their friends to leave. She sees hears this and is confused as to why they are so disgusted.

After finding out Buttercup and her warren lives near man, Hazel's group is unconvinced that Buttercup's warren is safe. Hazel and his friends decide to flee from there during the night while swiping her warren's Flayrah for themselves, shocking Buttercup. The rabbits soon find out that, with the exception of a fox lurking nearby, Buttercup's warren is harmless and that the men that live nearby are harmless too. Buttercup also has an argument with Bigwig about how while some humans are a threat to rabbits, not all of them are. Buttercup lets them take as much food as they want and Kehaar leads them back home safely to Watership Down.
